Animal Facts:
The Beelzebufo—nicknamed the "Devil Frog"—is an extinct species of prehistoric frog that lived approximately 70 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period. Discovered in Madagascar, this giant amphibian is believed to have been the largest frog to ever exist, reaching up to 16 inches (41 cm) in length and weighing around 10 pounds (4.5 kg)!
With its massive size and powerful jaws, Beelzebufo likely preyed on small dinosaurs, reptiles, and other animals. Its name, derived from "Beelzebub" (a name for the devil) and "bufo" (Latin for toad), reflects its fearsome appearance and strength. Think of it as the ancient world's apex amphibian!
Fun fact: Modern relatives of the Beelzebufo are thought to include horned frogs, or "Pac-Man frogs," which share a similarly stocky build and voracious appetite. This giant frog would have been both fascinating and terrifying to encounter in the wild!
