The Grimpoteuthis, affectionately known as the Dumbo octopus, is a fascinating genus of deep-sea creatures that live in the cold, dark depths of the ocean, ranging from 1,000 to 7,000 meters (3,300–23,000 feet). Named after Disney's Dumbo due to their adorable ear-like fins, these octopuses use their fins to "fly" gracefully through the water, conserving energy in their extreme environment.

With gelatinous bodies and a unique fin-propulsion movement, Dumbo octopuses stand out from their jet-propelled octopus cousins. They feed on crustaceans, worms, and copepods, often trapping prey in their webbed arms. These octopuses are also continuous spawners, laying eggs individually and attaching them to deep-sea corals.
