The Mosasaurus is an incredible extinct marine reptile that ruled the oceans during the Late Cretaceous period (82–66 million years ago). It belonged to the squamate family, meaning it was a relative of modern snakes and monitor lizards. Often referred to as the "lizard of the Meuse River" (where its first fossils were found), it grew to extraordinary sizes, with some species reaching up to 12 meters (39 feet) or more in length!
