Animal Facts:
Sacabambaspis is an extinct genus of jawless fish that lived during the Ordovician period. Approximately 25 cm (9.75 inches) in length, its tadpole-like body featured an oversized head shield made of characteristic oak-leaf or tear-drop-shaped plates. It inhabited shallow waters along the continental margins of ancient Gondwana. With a sensory lateral line system and rows of small bony oral plates, Sacabambaspis likely used suction feeding to consume small organisms. Fossils have been found in Bolivia, Australia, Argentina, and Oman, making it one of the best-known arandaspids.
