Carnotaurus: The "Meat-Eating Bull" of the Cretaceous
The Carnotaurus, whose name means "meat-eating bull," was a fierce predator from the Late Cretaceous (69–66 million years ago). Measuring up to 26 feet long and weighing around 2 tons, this South American dinosaur stood out for its short, deep skull adorned with two bull-like horns—an unusual feature for a theropod. These horns may have been used for headbutting rivals or displays during mating.
Renowned for its lightweight body and long, muscular tail, the Carnotaurus was possibly one of the fastest large predators, chasing down prey with speed and precision. What's more, it had unusually small, vestigial arms—yes, even tinier than a T. rex's! Instead of feathers, this dinosaur had scaly skin with irregular rows of larger bumps, likely giving it an armor-like appearance.
With sharp teeth and a flexible jaw, Carnotaurus could handle everything from small prey to tough opponents like other dinosaurs. This speed demon and horned oddity truly earned its place in the "terrifying predator" club of the Cretaceous!
